In Korea there is a holiday called 'Children's Day." I personally think it's a fabulous holiday and should be celebrated all over the world as a reminder to how precious children really are in our lives! I mean we have Mothers Day and Fathers day.....how about one for the kiddos?
Well here in Korea they acknowledge the precious babies that I pour out my blood, sweat, and tears for teaching each week, and I was happy to have a day to celebrate them at school.
For Children's Day the kids made little purses that they colored that said "Happy Children's Day"
and inside we put some pretend money.
We then took them into our auditorium which had been set up like a Garage Sale with toys, books, and clothes donated by parents. The kids 'shopped' around and used their newly learned English phrases like "How much is it?" and "I want to buy it." It was truly precious seeing them look into their purses for their pretend money and 'buy' these items. Their little shopping bags were getting full and their eyes were getting bigger and more full of joy with each purchase.
To top it off they got to choose between strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate ice-cream and eat a yummy cone while laughing and enjoying the music playing in the background. They marveled at their gifts, all wanting to show me what they got, and their faces became more covered with ice-cream with each minute that passed.
It was truly an adorable celebration that the kids really enjoyed. The excitement over their purchases lasted all day and they couldn't wait to get home to show their parents. These hardworking, second-language learning Korean children deserve nothing more than a day of fun in my book!
That is awesome, that truly needs to be done everywhere! Or at least where ever you, DTM and I are for sure!
